Consulting
The majority of my work is in a private psychiatric consulting practice in Sydney.
In addition to the treatment of self-esteem difficulties and relationship problems, I specialise in the management of depression, bipolar disorders and anxiety.
I generally refer drug and alcohol issues, attention deficit disorders, psychotic illnesses and eating disorders to colleagues who have a particular interest in these conditions.
If you are an Australian citizen, the cost of consultations is largely covered by Medicare, but there will be a gap payment. To receive the Medicare benefit, it is necessary to have a current referral from your general practitioner, with whom I would routinely liaise in matters of your treatment unless you instruct otherwise.
While treatment almost invariably involves a cognitive and behavioural approach, modified by psychodynamic principles, many people also require medication.
I may judge pharmacological management to be appropriate to your condition, however your decision to refuse medication would never preclude continuing psychotherapy.
I am always happy to provide a second opinion and equally pleased to refer you for further assessment if you choose.
I liaise closely with tertiary referral centres at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and the Northside Hospital Group.
If hospital admission were to prove necessary in the course of your treatment, you may choose to be referred to one of the Northside Clinics where you would be managed by hospital based specialists.
